Good to know
Two things are worth knowing before choosing a target format. First, JPG has no transparency: converting a PNG or WebP that has transparent areas to JPG fills them with solid white, and that cannot be undone afterwards. If the transparency matters, convert to PNG or WebP instead. Second, WebP files are usually much smaller than the equivalent JPG or PNG at similar visible quality, which is why websites favour them — but a very old browser, an ageing phone gallery or a legacy desktop program may not open them at all. When you are sending a file to someone whose software you do not know, JPG remains the safest choice.
Converting a JPG to PNG cannot restore detail the JPG already lost; it only stops further loss from that point on, usually at the cost of a considerably bigger file. Which format should I pick?
JPG for photographs and maximum compatibility, PNG when you need transparency or crisp screenshots and diagrams, WebP when file size matters most and you know the recipient is using a reasonably current browser.
Will converting to PNG improve my JPG?
No. The quality lost when the JPG was first created stays lost. PNG only prevents further loss on subsequent saves.
Can I convert HEIC photos from an iPhone?
Not with this tool, which accepts JPG, PNG and WebP — the formats browsers decode on their own. There is a separate HEIC to JPG converter for iPhone photos.
What happens with a batch of files?
Every file is converted to the same chosen format, one after another, and the whole set is bundled into a single ZIP so there is only one download to deal with.
