How to crop an image
- Drop a JPG, PNG or WebP onto the box above. It appears on the page straight away, scaled to fit your screen.
- If you need a fixed shape, choose 1:1, 4:3 or 16:9 first. Free lets you drag any rectangle you like.

Cropping is the fastest way to fix framing, and it is often the only edit a picture needs before it gets used somewhere.

Good to know
The picture you drag on is a preview, scaled down to about 1200 pixels on its longest side so it sits comfortably on screen. The crop is not taken from that preview: the selection is mapped back onto the original file and cut at its full native resolution. A selection reported as 900 × 900 in the status line really does produce a 900 × 900 pixel image, with no extra softening introduced by the preview scaling.
Format is preserved — PNG stays PNG with transparency, WebP stays WebP, and anything else is written as a high-quality JPG. There is no rotation or straightening here, so if the shot is sideways or mirrored, put it through Rotate & Flip Image first and crop the result. If the cropped area is still larger than you need, Resize Image will bring the dimensions down. Your photo is opened directly from your disk by this page and never travels across the network — which matters more than usual when cropping, since the part you are cutting away is often the part you would rather nobody saw.
Questions people ask
Does cropping reduce the quality of the picture?
No. The area you keep is copied from the original at its true resolution. The image simply has fewer pixels overall because it covers less of the scene.
Can I nudge the selection after drawing it?
Not by dragging its edges — drawing a fresh rectangle replaces the previous one, which in practice is quicker than fiddling with handles. The live pixel readout helps you land on the size you are aiming for.
Why is there no free-form or circular crop?
Image files are rectangular, so a rectangle is what can actually be saved. A round profile picture is normally a 1:1 crop that the website itself masks into a circle.
Can I crop an image on a phone?
Yes. The canvas responds to touch as well as to a mouse, so you can draw the selection with a finger.
